in 2001 general motors moved into the renaissance center in downtown detroit making it their official headquarters. the building is actually 7 interconnected skyscrapers and sits along the detroit river in the heart of the city. the idea for the rencen was originally conceived by henry ford ii and was financed primarily by the ford motor company and was built to revitalize the motor city with the first phase opening july 1st 1976. in 2015 the structure was officially re-branded the "gmrencen" and "reflecting a new detroit" was the deemed new tagline showcasing once again the fighting spirit of the city.
